Today, our members had the opportunity to visit with Mrs. Richburg’s class, at Manning Early Childhood Center, to engage with the children about fire safety. We emphasized the messages of when to dial 911 and that if there is a fire, they should never go back inside the building.
During our visit, we highlighted our firefighting gear, including helmets, jackets, and airpacks, explaining how these tools help keep firefighters safe while in a fire. It was inspiring to see the children’s curiosity as they asked questions. They also took part in an activity where they were able to dress their very own firefighter.
Thank you, MECC, for welcoming us!

This week, Clarendon County Fire Rescue has been conducting fire hose testing at Station 1 (Manning) to ensure the reliability and safety of our equipment. There has been a lot of traffic and activity at this station, and we wanted to let you all know whatβs been going on.
You ask, why do we need to test our fire hose? Here are some of the reasons:
1. Pressure Testing: Hose testing verifies that hose can withstand the high pressures they will encounter during a firefighting operation. This helps prevent hose failure, which can be dangerous and ineffective in an emergency.
2. Leak Detection: Regular testing helps identify any leaks or weaknesses in the hoses, ensuring that they are in good working condition. Finding and replacing damaged hoses before an emergency saves time and resources.
3. Maintaining Standards & Compliance: National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1962, requires fire hose to be tested prior to placing in service, annually, after repairs, and if it has been exposed to extreme conditions. (ex. chemical spills)
4. Extending Hose Life: By identifying issues early, testing can prolong the lifespan of the hoses. Regular maintenance and replacement of faulty equipment are essential for all fire response.
Overall, hose testing is a critical aspect of firefighting readiness, safety, and equipment reliability. If you would like to know more, stop by and see us! π
We would like to thank all of our members who have been assisting with getting our fire apparatus here from the other 16 stations in our county. We appreciate all you do!
There was 54,815 feet of fire hose tested this week!
